Accessibility Statement

At The Design Week (thedesignweek.com), we believe that exceptional design must be inclusive and accessible to everyone. We are committed to ensuring that our digital publication and content platform are accessible to individuals with disabilities, including those who rely on assistive technologies such as screen readers, voice recognition software, and keyboard navigation.

1. OUR COMMITMENT & STANDARDS

We strive to align our digital experiences with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards. These internationally recognized guidelines define how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive disabilities.

Our ongoing accessibility efforts apply to all pages, media assets, and interactive elements across thedesignweek.com.

2. MEASURES TO SUPPORT ACCESSIBILITY

To support digital accessibility across The Design Week, we implement the following measures:

  • High Contrast & Typography: Our minimal, black-and-white visual identity is engineered to maintain strong color contrast ratios between text elements and backgrounds for optimal readability.

  • Alternative Text (Alt Text): We aim to provide descriptive alternative text for non-text visual content, architectural photos, and editorial imagery so screen reader users can understand the visual context.

  • Keyboard Navigability: We design our site structure to allow users to navigate through main menus, links, and content blocks using keyboard controls.

  • Semantic HTML: We utilize structured HTML markup (such as headings, lists, and landmark regions) to aid screen readers and assistive tools in interpreting the page layout logically.

  • Responsive Design: Our website adapts seamlessly to various screen sizes, orientations, and zoom levels (up to 200%) without loss of content or functionality.

3. KNOWN LIMITATIONS & AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT

While we strive for comprehensive accessibility, we recognize that some areas of our platform may still present challenges as we grow. Current known limitations include:

  • Archival & Third-Party Media: Some user-submitted media, legacy press images, or embedded video content from external platforms (e.g., Vimeo, YouTube) may lack complete closed captioning or detailed alt text.

  • Complex Interactive Features: Highly interactive visual features or experimental web design layouts may occasionally require refinement for seamless screen reader navigation.

We are actively working to audit and resolve these limitations as part of our continuous site updates.
